The People of MassTex

Baumer, Joan E., MD, FAAFP

is the President of MassTex Imaging, LLC. She has 32 years experience in medicine, as she graduated in 1978 from Davis University in California and has completed both residency and fellowship in Family Medicine. Her career has expanded to not only direct patient care, but chairing departments, supervising other physicians, and developing programs to better serve her patients. She a family medicine physician and has developed the skills and knowledge to work alongside the speech language pathologist to improve patient care around dysphagia management. Dr. Baumer is one of the founding members of MassTex Imaging, LLC and is also a member and president of DiagnosTEX and Professional Imaging, LLC in Texas. Separate from Dr. Baumer's duties as president and direct patient care, she runs and chairs the Family Medicine Department at John Peter Smith Hospital in Texas. Dr. Baumer truly understands the necessity of not only providing a Modified Barium Swallow Study to determine safe swallow strategies, but the importance of looking at the whole patient separate from the MBSS. This is why MassTex Imaging is more than just a MBSS mobile practice, but a medical practice that focuses on Dysphagia consultation including MBSS, and provides both initial consultations to patients as well as continuity of care.

Cheverie, James A., MD

joined MassTex Imaging in August, 2008 as Medical Director. He has conducted nearly 7,000 Modified Barium Swallowing Studies since 2001. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Medical School and the University of Connecticut Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Cheverie is Board Certified in Family Medicine and holds medical licenses in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Conneticut, and New Hampshire. In addition to his duties as Medical Director, he is also the company's Radiation Safety Officer, and is in charge of Quality Assurance and Infection Control.

Lamhut, Jerold, MD

has been a member of the MassTex Imaging team since 2006. A graduate of the University of Brussels, Dr. Lamhut completed his internship and year residency with the Boston University Surgical Residency Program before entering private practice. As a licensed physician in Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire, Dr. Lamhut has been practicing medicine since 1983 and performed over 3,000 MBSS.

Giles, Melanie, MA, CCC-SLP

is a Speech Language Pathologist with over ten years experience in the diagnosis and management of pediatric and adult dysphagic patients. She has performed over 3,000 MBSS and is also trained in FEES (Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing). Melanie has worked in a variety of settings including skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, and outpatient clinics. She works closely with ENT practices to provide optimal care in the evaluation and treatment of dysphagic patients. Melanie is an adjunct professor to Massachusetts and New Hampshire Speech Pathology graduate programs, supervising practicums for students. She is an owner and a Managing Partner of MassTex Imaging, providing training to all speech pathologists in MBSS. Melanie is licensed to practice in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

Arsenault, Joan Kelly, MA, CCC-SLP

is a Speech Language Pathologist with over 25 years of experience in dysphagia management with infants, children and adults including MBSS and FEES. Joan has spoken and presented both nationally and at the state level in the areas of pediatric and adult dysphagia including head and neck cancer, neurological disorders, and infant feeding disorders. She has developed adult and pediatric dysphagia programs in acute care hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals, and outpatient settings. Joan has worked on interdisciplinary pediatric feeding teams, worked closely with ENT and prosthodontists for improved swallowing outcomes for head and neck cancer, and collaborated directly with numerous radiologists and GI physicians to implement and develop MBSS programs. Joan has worked in a variety of settings including acute care, skilled nursing facilities, home care, and outpatient clinics. She has taught dysphagia courses at the graduate level and is an adjunct professor to several Boston area graduate programs. Joan is an owner and a Managing Partner of MassTex Imaging and is the Quality Assurance Manager for MassTex Imaging. She provides training to all speech pathologists in MBSS and oversees the quality assurance program as well as performing MBSS throughout the state for both pediatric and adult dysphasic patients. Joan is licensed to practice in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Litwack, Amy, MS CCC-SLP

is a Speech-Language Pathologist with 13 years of clinical experience in adult neurogenics, specializing in identifying and treating swallowing disorders. She has worked in acute medical and rehab hospitals, completing over 2,000 MBSS. In addition to her clinical work, she is an instructor and clinical supervisor at a local Boston graduate program in speech pathology.
